Journal of Business Management and Accounting

Direct Marketing Policy

JBMA conducts scholarly outreach in a responsible, accurate and non-intrusive manner to inform relevant researchers and practitioners about legitimate opportunities to engage with the journal.

Responsible Scholarly Outreach

The Journal of Business Management and Accounting (JBMA) may communicate with researchers, reviewers, educators and practitioners about Calls for Papers, special editorial themes, new issues, scholarly events and other journal-related opportunities. Such communications are intended to be relevant, proportionate and consistent with the journal's academic scope.

1. Principles of Direct Marketing

JBMA's direct marketing and outreach activities are guided by the following principles:

  • Relevance — communications should be directed to individuals whose scholarly or professional interests are reasonably aligned with the journal.
  • Accuracy — information about JBMA, UUM Press, publication processes, indexing status, fees, review procedures and editorial policies must be truthful and current.
  • Transparency — messages should clearly identify JBMA and the purpose of the communication.
  • Proportionality — outreach should not be excessive, repetitive or intrusive.
  • Respect for Privacy — personal information should be used only for legitimate journal-related purposes and in accordance with the journal's Privacy Statement.
  • Editorial Independence — marketing activity must never influence peer review, editorial decisions or acceptance of manuscripts.

2. Permitted Scholarly Outreach

JBMA may communicate information about:

  • Calls for Papers;
  • forthcoming and newly published issues;
  • special editorial themes;
  • Research Case Study and Teaching Case opportunities;
  • academic workshops and case-writing activities;
  • reviewer recruitment;
  • journal policy or submission updates;
  • editorial initiatives; and
  • other scholarly activities directly related to the journal's mission.

3. Selection of Recipients

Where JBMA undertakes targeted outreach, recipients should be selected on reasonable scholarly grounds, such as:

  • subject expertise relevant to the journal's Aims & Scope;
  • recent publications in relevant areas;
  • participation in academic conferences or research networks;
  • previous legitimate engagement with JBMA;
  • reviewing or editorial expertise; or
  • professional involvement in areas related to management, leadership, accounting or case-based scholarship.

JBMA does not support indiscriminate mass solicitation or the use of misleading mailing lists unrelated to the journal's scholarly scope.

4. Accuracy of Promotional Information

All promotional communications must accurately represent the journal and must not exaggerate or misstate:

  • indexing or abstracting status;
  • journal ranking, impact or citation performance;
  • acceptance probability;
  • review or publication timelines;
  • article processing or publication charges;
  • editorial-board composition;
  • publisher affiliation; or
  • guarantees of publication or citation.
No Guaranteed Acceptance

Invitations to submit, including invitations issued directly by editors or members of the Editorial Board, do not guarantee peer review, acceptance or publication. All submissions remain subject to the journal's applicable editorial screening and peer-review requirements.

JBMA Scholarly Positioning

Outreach for Case-Based Scholarship

As JBMA strengthens its emphasis on case-based, context-rich and practice-relevant scholarship, the journal may undertake targeted outreach to researchers, educators and practitioners with relevant expertise in Research Case Studies, Comparative Case Studies, Teaching Cases and case-based management education.

Such outreach is intended to broaden the journal's scholarly community and improve the quality and diversity of submissions. It does not alter the journal's standards for originality, methodological rigour, peer review or editorial decision-making.

5. Email and Communication Practices

Direct communications should be professional, identifiable and relevant to the recipient.

Where appropriate, JBMA communications should:

  • clearly identify the journal and sender;
  • state the purpose of the message;
  • provide accurate journal and submission information;
  • avoid deceptive subject lines or misleading urgency;
  • avoid repeated unsolicited communication after a recipient has indicated that they do not wish to receive further messages; and
  • provide a reasonable means to request removal from non-essential promotional communications where applicable.

6. Use of Personal Information

Personal information used for journal outreach should be limited to what is reasonably necessary for legitimate scholarly communication.

JBMA does not sell personal information to third parties for commercial marketing purposes.

Information collected through manuscript submission, peer review or journal registration should not be repurposed for unrelated commercial promotion. Any use of personal information must remain consistent with the journal's published Privacy Statement and applicable institutional requirements.

7. Editorial Independence

Direct marketing and promotional activities are separate from editorial decision-making.

The decision to accept, revise or reject a manuscript must never be influenced by:

  • whether an author was directly invited to submit;
  • participation in a JBMA workshop or event;
  • institutional or professional relationships;
  • promotional campaigns; or
  • any financial or marketing consideration.

8. Third-Party Promotion

Where JBMA, UUM Press or Universiti Utara Malaysia uses an authorised service provider to distribute legitimate journal communications, that service must not alter the substance of journal claims or represent JBMA in a misleading manner.

Unauthorised organisations or individuals may not represent themselves as acting on behalf of JBMA without appropriate approval.

Relevant Outreach. Accurate Information. Independent Editorial Decisions.

JBMA uses scholarly communication to build meaningful engagement with its research community while avoiding misleading, intrusive or commercially driven solicitation.
