01 · Before Preparation

Before You Prepare Your Manuscript

Authors should ensure that the manuscript is appropriate for JCIA before preparing it for submission. The journal welcomes scholarly work relevant to computational innovation, quantitative methods, analytics, modelling, data-driven research, computational techniques, and related areas within the journal's scope.

Submission of a manuscript indicates that the authors consider the work to be original and suitable for scholarly evaluation by JCIA.

The manuscript should fall within the aims and scope of JCIA.
The manuscript should represent original scholarly work.
The manuscript should not be under consideration by another journal at the same time.
All listed authors should have approved the manuscript and its submission to JCIA.
Authors should ensure that appropriate permissions, ethical approvals, and research documentation have been obtained where applicable.
The manuscript should be prepared using the official JCIA manuscript template.

Journal suitability

Authors are encouraged to review the JCIA Aims & Scope before submission. Manuscripts that are clearly outside the journal's scope may not proceed to external peer review.

02 · Organisation

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized clearly and logically. The exact structure may vary depending on the nature of the study, but research articles should normally include the following components.

Title A concise and informative title that accurately reflects the subject of the study.

Abstract A clear summary of the purpose, methodology, principal findings, and contribution of the study.

Keywords Relevant terms that appropriately represent the subject, methodology, or analytical focus of the manuscript.

Introduction Establish the research context, problem, motivation, objectives, and significance of the study.

Literature Review / Background Position the research within relevant theoretical, methodological, and empirical literature.

Methodology Describe the research design, data, models, algorithms, statistical procedures, analytical techniques, or computational methods used.

Results Present the findings accurately and clearly, supported by appropriate tables, figures, statistical results, or analytical outputs.

Discussion Interpret the findings, relate them to prior research, and explain their theoretical, methodological, computational, or practical implications.

Conclusion Summarise the principal findings, contribution, limitations, and relevant directions for future research.

Declarations Include the required author, conflict of interest, data, AI, funding, and acknowledgment statements where applicable.

References Provide a complete and consistently formatted list of all sources cited in the manuscript. Where available, include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for each reference to ensure accurate identification and persistent access to the cited source.

03 · Research Reporting

Quantitative, Computational and Analytics Research

Because JCIA publishes research involving quantitative, computational and analytics approaches, authors should provide sufficient methodological information to allow readers and reviewers to understand how the analysis was conducted and how the conclusions were reached.

Data

Describe the data source, sample, variables, collection procedure, preprocessing, and relevant inclusion or exclusion criteria.

Methods

Explain statistical, mathematical, computational, optimisation, simulation, or machine-learning procedures sufficiently clearly.

Assumptions

State important statistical or modelling assumptions and explain how they were evaluated where appropriate.

Validation

Describe validation, diagnostic, robustness, sensitivity, or performance assessment procedures relevant to the methodology.

Software

Identify major software, programming environments, packages, or computational tools used where relevant to interpretation or reproducibility.

Interpretation

Conclusions should reflect the evidence produced by the analysis and should not exceed what can reasonably be supported by the results.

Peer Review Preparation

Prepare Your Manuscript for Double-Blind Review

JCIA adopts a double-blind peer review process. Information that directly identifies the authors should therefore be removed from the manuscript file supplied to reviewers.

Remove author names from the manuscript.
Remove institutional affiliations.
Remove author email addresses.
Remove ORCID identifiers.
Avoid acknowledgements or other statements that unnecessarily reveal author identity.
Enter author and affiliation information separately in the JCIA Online Submission System.

04 · Presentation

Tables, Figures and Equations

Tables, figures, equations, algorithms, and other analytical materials should contribute directly to the presentation and interpretation of the research.

Number tables and figures consecutively.
Provide concise and informative titles or captions.
Refer to every table and figure in the manuscript text.
Ensure that labels, symbols, legends, and numerical values remain readable.
Define abbreviations and specialized notation where necessary.
Number equations that are subsequently referred to in the text.
Explain variables, parameters, mathematical symbols, and model notation sufficiently for interpretation.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted figures, tables, or other third-party material where required.

05 · Citations

References and Citations

References should be relevant, accurate, and consistently presented in accordance with the formatting requirements specified in the JCIA manuscript template.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references and in-text citations strictly follow APA 7th edition referencing conventions.
Every source cited in the manuscript should appear in the reference list.
Every entry in the reference list should be cited in the manuscript where appropriate.
Authors should verify author names, publication details, volume and issue information, page numbers, and other bibliographic information.
Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) should be included where available and required by the journal format.
Authors should cite original and directly relevant sources wherever practicable.
References should not be included solely for the purpose of increasing citations to particular authors, journals, or institutions.

06 · Transparency

Manuscript Declarations and Statements

Authors should provide the relevant declarations near the end of the manuscript, before the References. Statements should accurately reflect the circumstances of the research and manuscript preparation.

Author Contributions Statement

Describe the contribution made by each author. Authors are encouraged to use recognised contributor roles, such as conceptualization, methodology, software, validation, formal analysis, investigation, data curation, visualization, writing, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition, where applicable.

Example:
Ahmad Faizal Rahman: Conceptualization, Methodology, Formal Analysis. Nur Aisyah Ismail: Data Curation, Investigation, Writing – Original Draft. Lim Wei Jian: Software, Validation, Visualization. Kavitha Rajendran: Writing – Review & Editing, Methodology. All authors reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors should disclose financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

Example where none exist:
The authors declare no conflicts of interest.

Data Availability Statement

Authors should state whether the data supporting the study are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, included in supplementary material, subject to access restrictions, or not applicable to the study.

Example:
The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.

Declaration of Generative AI Use

Authors should disclose material use of generative AI in manuscript preparation or research activities where required by JCIA policy. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of the manuscript. Visit the generative AI policy page to review our generative AI policy for authors.

Example where AI was used:
The authors used [name of AI tool] for language refinement and improvement of readability. All AI-assisted content was reviewed and verified by the authors, who remain fully responsible for the final content of the manuscript.

Example where AI was not used:
The authors declare that no generative AI was used in the preparation of this manuscript.

Acknowledgements

Individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship may be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, where appropriate.

Also, identify organizations that provided financial support for the research and include relevant grant or project numbers where applicable.

Example:
This research was supported by [Funding Agency] under Grant No. [grant number].

If no funding was received:
This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

Suggested order of declarations

Author Contributions Statement → Conflict of Interest Statement → Data Availability Statement → Declaration of Generative AI Use → Acknowledgements → Conflict of Interest Statement → References.

07 · Research Integrity

Ethical and Responsible Reporting

Authors are responsible for ensuring that research reported in JCIA complies with applicable ethical, institutional, legal, and professional requirements.

Research findings should be reported accurately and honestly.
Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or inappropriate manipulation of data is unacceptable.
Appropriate ethical approval should be obtained for research requiring institutional or research ethics oversight.
Funding and relevant competing interests should be disclosed.
Authors should retain appropriate research records and supporting information.
Sources, datasets, software, methods, and previous scholarship should be appropriately acknowledged.

08 · Final Check

Submission Readiness Checklist

Before starting the online submission process, authors should confirm that the manuscript and supporting information are complete.

The manuscript falls within the aims and scope of JCIA.
The official JCIA manuscript template has been used.
The manuscript is original and is not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere.
The manuscript has been anonymised for double-blind peer review.
All authors have approved the manuscript and its submission.
Author names, affiliations, email addresses, and other metadata are accurate in the submission system.
Tables, figures, equations, and supplementary materials have been checked.
Citations and references have been verified.
The Author Contributions Statement has been included.
The Conflict of Interest Statement has been included.
The Data Availability Statement has been included.
The Generative AI Use Statement has been included where applicable.
Funding and acknowledgment information has been provided where applicable.
Required ethical approvals and permissions have been obtained where applicable.
