Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate a Competency Practice Model of Personality Quality for Excellent Islamic Education Lecturers at the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM). A qualitative approach employing a multiple case study design was adopted, involving eight Excellent Islamic Education Lecturers from eight campuses of the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis and were analysed thematically using NVivo software to identify the key themes underpinning lecturers' personality competencies. The findings revealed that the personality quality competency of Excellent Islamic Education Lecturers comprises two principal dimensions, namely character (sahsiah) and communication. The character dimension encompasses lecturers' relationships with Allah SWT, themselves, students, and colleagues, whereas the communication dimension consists of both verbal and non-verbal communication practices in carrying out professional responsibilities. Based on these findings, a Competency Practice Model of Personality Quality for Excellent Islamic Education Lecturers was developed and validated as an empirically grounded framework for strengthening lecturers' professional development and teacher education programmes in Malaysia. The proposed model advances competency theory by providing an evidence-based personality competency framework specifically designed for Islamic Education lecturers. Furthermore, the study enriches the literature on Islamic educator competencies by demonstrating the significance of integrating character (sahsiah) and professional communication to foster excellence in the teaching profession.
