The Japanese animation doraemon is among the most popular entertainment media consumed by children and adolescents in Malaysia. Its popularity extends beyond the storyline and characters to include the opening theme song, which is repeatedly broadcast and widely recognized. Nevertheless, the lyrical content of the opening theme has received limited scholarly attention, particularly regarding its implications for the aqidah among Muslim children and adolescents. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a semantic analysis of the doraemon opening theme song by examining its lyrical elements, implicit messages, and their implications for the aqidah of Muslim youth. This study adopts a qualitative approach through semantic-based content analysis. The analysis focuses on the literal and implicit meanings embedded within the song lyrics, their contextual usage within the animated narrative, and the direct or indirect messages conveyed to the audience. The data were further evaluated in light of the fundamental principles of Islamic creed. The findings reveal that the lyrics of the doraemon opening theme contain elements that contradict Islamic aqidah, particularly in relation to beliefs concerning supernatural entities and magical powers capable of fulfilling desires, providing absolute assistance, and altering both the future and the past. Such elements are inconsistent with the Islamic concepts of the reality of time, knowledge of the unseen (‘ilm al-ghayb), and divine predestination (qadar). Furthermore, the study also found the probability several negative effects on the attitudes and character development of children and adolescents, including the cultivation of false expectations, diminished motivation to strive independently, and dependency on fantasy-based solutions in dealing with academic tasks and daily life challenges. In conclusion, this study underscores the necessity for critical evaluation of children’s entertainment content to ensure its alignment with Islamic values and the foundational principles of aqidah.
