Abstract

Companies use cooperative strategies in sustaining performance and competitive advantage. The driver behind the cooperative strategies is mutual cooperation. There is an integration in the inter-companies’ alliances at horizontal level. The inter-companies’ alliances provide platforms and coworking spaces for value creation and innovation. This purpose of the study is to explore the influence of ta’awun (mutual cooperation) in sustaining innovation alliances. The study used personal interview with key managers
with manual data collection and data analysis. The key results suggested that the influence of ta’awun is the spirituality and social driven on the contractual arrangements in the alliances. The main theoretical contribution is the alliances with spiritual cooperation through unified socialization.

Suhaimi Mhd Sarif, Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia

Prof Dr Hj Suhaimi Mhd Sarif has been academic staff in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at International Islamic University Malaysia since 2000. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012 and to Professor in 2021. He obtained his BBA from IIUM, MBA in Management from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Ph.D. in Commerce from Murdoch University, Australia. He teaches and researches into strategy, Islamic management, knowledge management, social entrepreneurship and business ethics. He is associated with the Islamic perspectives working committees with SIRIM, the national organisation for standards and quality in the Malaysian industry. Suhaimi is currently editor-in-chief of Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal (AEJ) (a SCOPUS-indexed journal), editor-in-chief of IIUM Journal of Case Studies in Management, and Web Section Editor of IIUM Journal on Integration of Knowledge. He was associate editor of IIUM International Journal of Economics and Management Sciences (IJEMA) (a SCOPUS-indexed journal) and World Academy of Islamic Management (WAIM)’s Journal of Islamic Management Studies (JIMS). He is past President of the Academic Staff Association (ASA), IIUM.

Yusof Ismail, Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia

Tuan Haji Yusof Ismail has been a senior academic in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at International Islamic University Malaysia since 1986. He earned his accountancy diploma from MARA Institute of Technology, the predecessor of current UiTM, before working with Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Central Bank. He pursued his BS in Finance and MBA in Management and Marketing from business schools in the USA, and embarked on research into strategy in the UK. He teaches and researches into strategy, Islamic management, human resource management, and business ethics.  He has been associated with the Islamic perspectives of standards in the technical committee and working committees of SIRIM, the national organisation for standards and quality in the Malaysian industry. Yusof was a member of the editorial board of the first issue of the precursor of the current International Journal of Economics and Management Sciences (IJEMA), Currently, Yusof is a committee member of PESUAM, the retirees’ association of IIUM staff.

Dolhadi Zainudin, Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia

Assistant Professor Dr Dolhadi Zainudin is currently Head, Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with honors from International Islamic University. Then his Master of Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. His doctorate is a Doctor of Business Administration from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has been in the industry for more than 10 years before joining academia 20 years ago.  He teaches and researches in quality management, operations management, production management, and strategic management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised more than 10 masters and doctorate theses in the areas of quality management.
