Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article examines the role of the Jogokariyan Mosque in the development of civil society in Yogyakarta. This study employed a qualitative research design. Primary data were obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. In addition, a review of textbooks, journal articles, bulletins, brochures and internet sources was conducted to support the primary data. The data were examined using descriptive analysis to provide a comprehensive account of the mosque's role in developing civil society in Yogyakarta. The theory of ummah empowerment was applied as the analytical framework. The findings show that the Jogokariyan Mosque plays a highly significant role in developing civil society in Yogyakarta, particularly in the religious, Islamic economic and socio-political spheres.
