Abstract

Climate change has become a critical global challenge affecting the quality of life, particularly in urban areas. Increasing air pollution, declining water quality, and the rising intensity of climate-related disasters highlight the urgent need for effective responses. In this context, leadership plays a strategic role not only in promoting climate awareness but also in strengthening urban climate resilience. This study aims to explore the role of leadership in enhancing climate awareness and building urban resilience to achieve sustainable cities. This paper employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method. Various sources, including academic journals, policy reports, and case studies, are analyzed to understand the relationship between leadership, climate awareness, and urban resilience. The study also examines examples from cities that have successfully implemented sustainability and resilience strategies under strong leadership. The findings indicate that leaders contribute significantly through the development of environmentally friendly policies, public campaigns, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives. These efforts not only increase awareness but also strengthen the adaptive capacity of communities in responding to climate risks. Leadership strategies such as promoting renewable energy, sustainable transportation, efficient waste management, and inclusive governance are essential in building resilient urban systems. However, challenges such as political constraints, limited economic resources, and varying levels of community support remain significant barriers. The study concludes that effective and visionary leadership is crucial in integrating climate awareness with adaptive strategies to enhance urban resilience. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and encouraging active community participation, cities can transition toward being not only sustainable but also resilient in the face of climate change.
